Why I am on Team Jacob- by Marissa Greene

why i’m on team jacob… •2009.12.18 • Leave a Comment
Before I give my own opinion I want to share the following lines from an SNL skit starring Taylor Lautner (aka Jacob from New Moon).

There was a time in my life where I too liked Edward Cullen…when Jacob was merely a blip on my radar screen. But then something changed, maybe I changed. Maybe I learned the value of a guy who was also my friend. But more likely, Jacob changed. When he took off his shirt in New Moon I saw those changes and I was like, “YES!! I WANNA BAKE COOKIES ON YOUR STOMACH!”

Unlike many people today, (tweens and teens mostly) I was never attacted to Edward. Yes, he was a smooth talked who had it bad for this chic Bella, but I just didn’t see it. To be quite honest, I think I’m on TEAM JACOB because he’s more attractive than Edward…both in the movie and as an actor.

Here is a list of my reasons:

1.) I’m attracted to men who are not pasty white and who shimmer in the sunlight. I like my men with color and dark hair. My case in point below…

2.) Jacob was a childhood friend of Bella, not some mysterious creepy man who had some sort of power over her… (seriously though…screaming in your dreams because a guy left you…how tied to him were you?!) I like my men to pursue me and out of their sheer charm I begin to be attracted to them.

3.) I like my men with muscle. Edward loses hands down on this one. Let me put a few pictures up to confirm this one…

You know, I had a conversation with a friend of mine. She seems to think that tweens and teens alike are attracted to the character of Edward because he’s mysterious and had the ability to hurt you but controls himself out of love…she thinks it has something to with the danger factor of this guy. Yes, Edward is dangerous cause he could kill if he so happens to lose control while biting you…but seriously…whats the big deal?!

Jacob is just as dangerous, if not more so. I just don’t get it.

All of this being said, I’m for TEAM JACOB because the actor is FINE! Who isn’t attracted to a muscular guy running in the woods with his shirt off and dripping wet?! What’s not to like?! He’s handsome, he’s funny, he’s built quite well, he’s a childhood friend who filled out and someone who Bella is obviously attracted to… I don’t know this guy in real life and I don’t know what kind of guy he is, but he seems nice from what I’ve seen in interviews and on SNL the other night.

TEAM JACOB cause the man is FIIIIINE all around! Perhaps it’s a shallow opinion…but it’s mine nonetheless!

Twilight and other shenanigans

I was An-Twi for a really long time. Come on pale vampires? Seriously?

I find it really odd how obsessive twilight fans are. They straight live and breathe Team Edward and stuff. I resisted the machine. Thought that this was for children.  When New Moon first came out and it was everywhere, I have to admit my curiosity was piqued substantially. But yet, I felt it was silly. “Was it worth the hype?” I wondered.

But just like Edward to Bella, “I don’t have the strength to stay away from you anymore-Twilight!”

Inspired by this SNL skit  a girlfriend and I decided to watch Twilight (she had ulterior motives- she is straight cougar crushin on Jacob).

I know it can come across controversial,  all the undead and stuff. But just like an episode of Cheaters it sucks you right in. I will say this as a disclaimer of due diligence, do not see this movie if you are going to fall for it. If you all of a sudden will want to date vampires and be best friends with a wereolf that refuses to put his shirt on.

And not to get too deep there are some key issues that bother me-

1) This generations’ obsession with dark otherworldliness- proof I believe that they are searching for Something bigger then themselves

2) The whole I would rather die than be without you. I will tell you like I told my niece, this is a story, and acting like that in real life is as ridiculous as blood sucking red haired vampires. Do not normalize depression, oppression, or tormentedness. Trust and believe I am no Charlie and I will not wake you up from nightmares.

3) The whole Bella I have to have a man to help me get over a man dilly-yo. Its the generation of the independent woman homes. Grab some girlfriends and your motorcycle and ride on.

4) The whole I don’t need no soul stuff. I bet if you didn’t have a soul you would definitely miss it.

But if you just watch this movie for the pure entertainment value, its definitely the “Dirty Dancing” , “Grease” of this generations’ time. But with a lot less singing and dancing and more of the pale, brooding.

Tomorrow I tackle why I think girls like Edward- yeah seriously.

xoxo,
